The Formulator's Bench · Two programs for independent & private-label chemists
The Formulator's Bench is Moe's Group's home for independent and private-label chemists. Run two ways: sell us a formula you own for cash plus a profit share, or refer a customer who needs manufacturing and earn a share of the project. Either way, your expertise finally pays like it should.
The independent formulator's dilemma
Moe's Group built two programs to fix that — and pay you properly.
You've built formulas you genuinely believe in — then handed them over for a one-time fee while someone else profits for years.
When a customer needs the product actually made, you're stuck playing middleman between them and a manufacturer who treats you like a purchase order.
Either way, the real value of your work slips away with nothing ongoing coming back to you.
Getting started
A formula you own, or a customer who needs one made. Send it over under NDA — a fast, honest look, with no fishing for your secrets.
If you own the formula, that's the buyout program. If your customer owns it and just needs it produced, that's the referral program. We'll tell you which — and what it's worth.
A cash offer plus profit share, or a referral share with a transparent shared file — clear numbers, signed before anything moves. Nothing changes hands until you're paid.
Production, compliance, packaging, fulfillment, and the retail placement that drives volume. You collect: cash, a year of profit share, or both.
The difference
Anyone can fill a bottle. Almost no contract manufacturer can get that bottle in front of a national retail buyer. Through relationships we've spent years building, the brands we manufacture have a path onto the shelves of retailers like Ulta Beauty and TJ Maxx — placement most independent formulators could never reach on their own.
For you, that changes the math entirely. A product that lands in retail doesn't sell once — it sells season after season. That volume is exactly why we can put real cash on the table for a formula we buy, and why a 25% profit share is worth taking in either program: you'd be backing a brand that actually moves, not a single production run.
Two ways to work with us
One is for a formula you own and believe in. The other is for a customer you've already sold a formula to. Different situations, different deals — both pay you for your work.
For independent or private-label chemists with a formula they own.
to own a standard formula — up to $20,000 for a complex, high-grade one
For chemists whose customer already owns the formula and needs manufacturing.
profit share on the project — for one year
Every deal is transparent and put in writing. Nothing transfers, and no customer changes hands, until terms are signed. Not sure which program fits? Reach out and we'll tell you straight.
The facility & capabilities
Bench-faithful reproduction, stability and compatibility testing, and clean scale-up from R&D batch to full production — without drifting from your formula.
Batch records, COAs, lot traceability, and the paperwork your clients — and their retailers — will ask for, prepared as standard, not on request.
Liquids, creams, balms, oils, sticks, and more — filled and packaged on-site, not shipped out to a third party and back.
Compliant labeling, claims guidance, and documentation so the finished product is both shelf-ready and audit-ready on day one.
The #1 U.S. tallow manufacturer, with an active R&D bench tracking the formats that are about to break — so you can build what's next, not what's expired.
Pick, pack, and ship — direct-to-consumer or into retail — without bolting on yet another vendor or another margin.
Trusted to produce at scale
Founded in 2021, Moe's Group has become one of the fastest-growing contract manufacturers in the country — the production engine behind brands you've seen go viral and brands backed by names you'd recognize. The Formulator's Bench is how we extend that engine to the independent chemists building what's next.
Questions formulators ask first
If you own a formula and want to sell it, that's Program 1 — a cash buyout ($10,000 standard, up to $20,000 for high-grade) plus a 25% profit share for the first year. If your customer already owns the formula and just needs it manufactured, that's Program 2 — you refer them and earn 25% of the project for a year. Not sure? Reach out and we'll tell you which fits.
It depends on the program. In the buyout program (Program 1), the formula and its IP transfer to Moe's Group — that's what the $10,000–$20,000 purchase pays for. In the referral program (Program 2) it's the opposite: your customer keeps full ownership and we only manufacture. Either way, nothing transfers until terms are signed.
Standard formulas are purchased at $10,000. Complex, high-grade formulas go up to $20,000. What moves you toward the top end: difficulty, how differentiated it is, how production-ready it is, and whether it already has sales behind it. Both buyouts include a 25% profit share for the first year — and we'll tell you honestly where yours lands before you commit.
For the first year you earn 25% of the project's profit, and you, the customer, and Moe's Group all share one file with every number — fully transparent for everyone. After that year, the customer continues directly with Moe's Group. You're paid for opening the door and for that first year of production.
Typical turnaround is about 14 days once a formula is production-ready — fast enough to keep a launch on schedule instead of holding it up.
Skincare and personal care across creams, serums, cleansers, balms, oils, body care, lip products, and tallow-based formulations — including formats most manufacturers won't touch. If you can formulate it, we can likely produce it.
Program 1 (buyout): a cash purchase — $10,000 for a standard formula, up to $20,000 for a high-grade one — plus 25% of profit for the first year. Program 2 (referral): 25% of the project's profit for one year, with no buyout since the customer owns the formula. Every figure is put in writing before anything is signed.
Placement is never guaranteed — by us or anyone. What we offer is access: established relationships with retailers like Ulta Beauty and TJ Maxx that give the brands we manufacture a real, rare path to the shelf that independent formulators almost never have on their own.
Our manufacturing facility is in Chatsworth, California, with headquarters in Camarillo. Formulation, filling, packaging, and fulfillment all happen under one roof.
