What are exosomes in skincare?
Exosomes are microscopic extracellular vesicles that carry signalling molecules between cells. In the cosmetic context they are used as ingredients marketed around skin renewal and a healthy-looking, more resilient complexion. It is worth being precise about a distinction the marketing tends to blur: the exosome materials realistically available for a retail cosmetic are plant-, marine- or ferment-derived and are best described as exosome-inspired, and they are formulated to speak to how skin looks and feels. That is not the same as the human-cell-derived exosomes used in clinics, which sit in an entirely different regulatory category. We build the cosmetic.

Where do the exosome ingredients come from?
We source cosmetic ingredients internationally and work with brands on sourcing transparency, because with exosome materials the raw-material specification matters more than in almost any other category. Source, purity and characterisation vary widely between suppliers, so the spec sheet is where the real diligence happens: what the material is derived from, how it is characterised, and what the supplier can and cannot substantiate. We help a brand read that sheet honestly and formulate a stable finished product around it, rather than taking a headline ingredient name at face value.
Are exosomes ready for a retail cosmetic line?
With care, and this is the most useful thing a manufacturer can tell you before you commit a formula. Most of the compelling exosome evidence concerns injected or clinically administered products, not topical cosmetics, and regulators have taken action against unapproved injectable exosome products. A topical cosmetic made with exosome-derived ingredients is a different thing entirely, and it must speak to appearance only. The category has a genuine biotech story and real consumer pull; it does not yet have a settled topical-cosmetic evidence base. A brand can enter it well by being disciplined about claims from the first draft of the label, which is exactly where we start.
What claims can a topical exosome cosmetic make?
Cosmetic ones, about appearance. A topical exosome product sold as a cosmetic in the United States can speak to how skin looks and feels – smoother, firmer-looking, more radiant, a more even-looking tone. It cannot claim to heal, regenerate or repair tissue. That is precisely the language much of the exosome literature is written in, because that literature studies clinical and injectable use, which is what makes this the single biggest compliance trap on the ingredient shelf. Regeneration and tissue repair are drug claims. Keep the claim set cosmetic, and keep the substantiation attached to your finished product rather than to the reputation of the raw material.
How do exosome cosmetics fit alongside peptides and PDRN?
They sit in the same regeneration-story shelf as PDRN and next-generation peptides, and many brands weigh all three when they plan a “skin longevity” range. The honest ranking on evidence is roughly the reverse of the hype: peptides have the most settled cosmetic evidence of the three, PDRN’s strong data is largely injectable rather than topical, and exosomes are the most emerging and the most compliance-sensitive.
